Gabrielle Paananen is a puppet maker and designer who is passionate about breathing life into inanimate materials using the universal language of movement to engage people and tell a story.
Fascinated by connections and patterns in nature, Gab has studied natural history illustration, animal behaviour, taxidermy, mycology and skeleton articulation. She was awarded the PACT/BBM Performing arts scholarship (2016) and in the same year the Bouddi Arts scholarship. She has completed a Diploma of Production Art and has illustrated several scientific papers as well as a book about Permaculture. Her extended time working with communities in the Solomon Islands and Uganda is reflected in her work.
Gab has worked as a puppeteer, concept artist and maker on projects including Erth's Prehistoric Aquarium, Little Shop of Horrors, Community Museums and Vivid Festival’s ‘Liminal Hour’.
